Weekly Buzz – 04/28/18

Hello Collectors,

It’s been a fun week so far! Let’s keep the ball rolling onto next week!

Behind the Curtain

We have made our first steps toward fixing the ‘spinning wheel of death’ that appears during the release of a new item. This process hasn’t been completely installed yet, as we realize that the changes we have made are negatively impacting normal play. As we work through optimizing various API calls, we will continue issuing items. No need to email us about experiencing slowness during a drop, as that’s to be expected at the moment. We hope to begin testing item releases using the new way of creating items sometime next week. Until then, have a great weekend, and best of luck during the next few drops. If you missed the last blog post about this, you can read up on it here.

Development continues on 2.2.5, with some bug fixes and the beginnings to promises made long, long ago. There hasn’t been much development on this feature yet, but it can be traced back to October 2013 as the date of origin. More to think on here for you all, but we’re excited to see this coming together.

On a personal note, Kelsey and I would like to sincerely thank everyone who helped us announce the sex of our soon-to-be daughter! How many people can say they’ve done a gender reveal through an online game? To my knowledge, not many. We appreciate all the kind words from the community. I will respond to messages soon. It’s been very hectic, as one might think. To clear any confusion with the announcement, she has not been born yet – her due date is in September.

Maintenance Notes – 04/26/18

Hello Collectors,

For far too long there have been issues with item releases in WallaBee. This started many years ago, and although we built a new app, it still plagues us today. As far as we can tell, the main culprit in this situation is how we handle the creation of items. Imagine this image in your head for a moment…

Adding items into WallaBee is like dropping a marble into a funnel. The funnel is wide enough to hold several marbles at once, but only one marble can fit through the narrow end of the funnel at a time. During normal hours of the day, marbles are added at a normally consistent rate, allowing them to slide through the funnel with limited resistance. However, when a new item is released, everyone is dropping their marble into the funnel at the same time, creating a blockage for certain players. As more marbles are dropped into the funnel, the room for new marbles decreases, and they flow over the sides of the funnel, never making it through.

We are currently working on an alternative system for item creation, which is a drastically different from the analogy above. The changes we’ve made are currently live, so everyone is now an honorary guinea pig! Thanks for unknowingly helping! You may see certain aspects of the app slow down during normal hours of play as we adjust this new system. Please be advised that we are doing our best to pinpoint and adjust these areas as quickly as possible.

Thank you for playing our game.

Unique Spotlight – The Disc-Integrater

Whether it’s in the science class, the disc golf course, or the ring, The Disc-Integrater will be laying the smack down!

Owner: Trailerboy

How To Get: This unique can be traded for a missing 489, or a sub 489 where I have higher saved.

Meaning: I created this unique to highlight all my interests; disc golf, professional wrestling, and teaching middle school science!

Which number unique is this for you? This is my first unique. If my wife allows it, I’ll hopefully have more in the future.

Weekly Buzz – 04/20/18

Hello Collectors,

Sorry we missed you last week! We’re still here and kicking with two weeks worth of updates for you. Enjoy!

Behind the Curtain

WallaBee Update 2.2.4 was released this week, with some fun new aspects to the game. Players can now better organize their Uniques with built-in sorting and easy to understand categories. The Market got a small facelift with the ability to buy certain items whenever you want. No need to stalk the stores for hours just to find some sushi (about time). Speaking of stores, there’s only two for the meantime. We removed Retrobee and Mixing Mayhem to help test app processing and battery consumption. Other stores may come and go with app changes and holidays. To read up on all the changes made in this update, please check out the Update Notes.

Ivory Coins are back! Player Unique owners receive Ivory Coins when certain milestones are reached with their unique. These milestones include having a certain number saved or distributed.

  • Saved: 500,600,700,800,900,1000,1200,1400,1600, etc.
  • Distributed: 25k, 50k, 75k, 100k

Benson has hit the street with even more numbers than before: 50! Check and see if any are in your neighborhood! Remember, he only visits Verified Monuments – so make sure your monuments have a check mark on the top-left corner.

We will be conducting some tests for an upcoming gameplay feature. Please don’t be alarmed if you see a new item and don’t know how to get it. All things will be revealed soon!

This Week In WallaBee History | April 16th – 22nd

April 19th, 2017: We spent Another Night In The Forest looking for the elusive sqauatch, with only an old photograph as evidence.

April 20th, 2014: Bunny Scissors released, allowing the previous year’s Easter Box to finally be opened! What was inside? The Easter Hen, of course. Mixing a colored egg with the Easter Hen would hatch an Easter Chick… talk about Eggshausting.

April 22nd, 2016: The greatest item of all time came out. We won’t tell you what it was, you’ll have to tell us. #WallaBeeTrivia

WallaBee 2.2.4 Notes

Hello Collectors!

It’s been a while, but we’re back with another update! We’ve fixed some bugs, added some new features, and paved the way for some awesome things to come! Version 2.2.4 is now available for iOS and Android! We work diligently to make your experience playing WallaBee better with every update. If there is a feature you would like to see, or a pesky bug that we haven’t addressed in our Weekly Buzz segment, we would love to hear from you. Remember to check out the Weekly Buzz for current updates.

Features

  • Buy Items Instantly!
    • Items have been added to the Market as a ‘buy-it-now’ option. Need Red Paint, but don’t want to stalk the store for hours? Now you can buy it immediately and save yourself some aggravation. This won’t apply to all items, so you still may have to forage for those WallaBee Mixers!
    • There is a timeout of ten seconds between purchases of the same item.
    • NOTE: New items will not be available through this method until after a drop.
  • New Uniques Page
    • Move Mode allows for faster adjustments. No need to long-press each card, simply tap! Hit ‘Done’ to save the order.
    • Sorting Uniques has never been easier! Players can sort their Uniques by Alphabetical, Number, or Release Date. Adjusting.
    • Live search for items you have saved. Works for items or numbers.
    • Favorite items! By selecting a saved item’s context menu, players can select which items display in the new Favorites tab.

  • Updated Foraging Timer
    • We’ve upped the number of forages at each location from 3 to 10!
  • Enhanced Item Dropping
    • You can now drop item after item without having to go back a page! This was a ‘bug’ in a previous build, but we thought it might make a nice new addition to your dropping needs.

Bug Fixes

  • Item View Crash
  • Performing an action that triggers a pop up sometimes ‘freezes,’ which needs a hard close to fix
  • Places List – Bottom of row doesn’t register input.
  • Sets Page always shows ‘try again’ before loading view
  • Misc. minor bugs

Unique Spotlight – Foraging Fox

This fox can be found high in the Kentucky hills of Stamping Ground.

Owner: Ground Fox

How To Get: My unique can be acquired by trading for any missing TD.

Meaning: I enjoy how uniques are a way for WallaBee players to highlight their personalities, hobbies or homelands with other players from around the world. The Foraging Fox unique is special to me because it shows a fox amidst the rolling hills of Kentucky. Often when cell service is poor because of weather conditions I find myself standing on top of a hill behind my house trying to get signal to play WallaBee! You have to take it all in stride.

Which number unique is this for you? This is my only unique at this time.

Unique Spotlight – The 40mph Couch Potato

The Greyhound. Built for speed, designed for sleep.

Owner: greyhoundjane

How To Get: Many were gifted as thank you gifts to those who helped me in my early days of play. Many were traded for missing TDs as the time. Now I trade for personal Uniques I am missing. This item will probably stop at 250.

Meaning: I created the unique to highlight what amazing pets Greyhounds make and help change some misconceptions. Built for speed and not for stamina, Greyhounds do not need a lot of exercise. In fact, two twenty minute walks a day will suffice. They do love to run if given the space, but a 5 minute race round the garden or dog park will totally wear them out. What do Greyhounds do best? Sleep! For 22hrs a day in fact. No I am not kidding, think giant cat. Talking of cats, yes it’s true not all Greyhounds are cat safe. But then again that can be said about any breed of dog.

Which number unique is this for you? This was my 1st Unique, based on one of my First Greyhounds, “Freckles,” who I had to say goodbye to her in 2007 after she lost her battle with cancer. She and kennel mate (out other hound at the time) were rescued from the Irish Racing industry.

Closing Thoughts: Some interesting facts for you:

  • Greyhounds are mentioned or featured in 11 of Shakespeare’s plays.
  • General George Custer was a big greyhound fancier.
  • President Abraham Lincoln had a greyhound on his family coat-of-arms.
  • Greyhounds are the fastest breed of dog, reaching top speeds of 45 miles per hour!
  • Greyhounds can see CLEARLY for a distance of a half-mile!
  • In England at one time, it was forbidden for ‘commoners’ to even own a greyhound.
  • Greyhounds come in 19 different primary colors and in over 55 different color combinations.
  • Greyhounds have a larger heart, lungs and more red blood cells than other canine breeds.
  • Rescued greyhounds are used for donating blood for other dogs! Greyhounds have a more universal blood that can be used for dogs needing blood transfusions from accidents, injuries or surgery.
  • A Greyhounds foot placement when running is different to any other dog – during the Greyhound’s complete stride, he is off the ground twice – a double suspension gallop (they run like a cheetah, not like a horse). When running, greyhounds spend 80% of their time in the air. It is as close to “flight” as a land animal can get.
  • Greyhounds require little exercise, are very quiet, and are ideal for suburban homes, unlike many other large breeds of dogs.

Weekly Buzz 04/06/18

Hello Collectors,

Quick update today. Magic wands, juice, and the colors black and white.

Behind the Curtain

Development keeps on going slowly but surely toward the next app update. With a small team working on WallaBee, it can take a while. We hope that you continue to enjoy the game as we make improvements.

When you wish upon a star… shaped magic wand, lots of things can happen! In fact, items may change before your very eyes. We have a new Unique coming soon that has the power to change certain variants. Tired of having a white Easter Chick? Use a the magic wand and PRESTO CHANGO, it’s now one of the other 13 variations. What about changing that flavor of Jelly Beans you have? You can do that too! The item’s number remains the same and the previous history will be updated with the new variant artwork. Warning: use of magic is highly random and will sometimes not give you the variant you want. Many magic wands may be needed before favorable results are achieved. There may also be a small explosion when using this type of magic, so use with caution.

We’re just about finished with the Freshly Squeezed set. Remember, if you get stuck on figuring out one of these mega mixes, all recipes are available on ItemBee.

Our next set will have everyone speechless. Literally.

Well, she purposely put kale, spinach, mango, banana, coconut, blueberries, granola, açaí, chai seeds, matcha and wheatgrass in her smoothie. That’s dedication to WallaBee, right there! Unique Spotlight – Roaming Gnome

With a carefree, ambling stride
He travels far and wide
Seeking good where’er he goes
As kindness is all he knows

Owner: elli61

How To Get: TD Gnomes freely given out for in-game acts of kindness. To receive one you need to be nominated for one by another player. To nominate a player for a Gnome see the Roaming Gnome thread in the Wallabee Chat Forum. SD low DD Gnomes are available for trade. Please PM Elli61 or see her profile for details.

Meaning: When I started playing Wallabee I was helped by some very generous players who gave me items (and advice) when I had nothing of value to give in return. This Walla-kindness is one of my favorite parts of the game! So I knew I wanted a unique that contributed to that aspect of the game.

Which number unique is this for you? 2. My first unique, the Hamsa is owned jointly with the player Michal who is both my dear friend and my cousin!

Closing Thoughts: I have a collection of garden gnomes that started when one was given to me as a joke by a good friend (she has no idea what she started!) I also love to travel, and the combination of both led to the creation of the Roaming Gnome.
